Hello and Welcome!!

I’m so excited you’re here! Encapsulate is an e-course I’ve put together based on my love of photography and the nostalgia I feel for my own childhood years. I’m one of the lucky ones because my mom kept tons of stuff from when I was a kid, so there is plenty to look back on! In this course I will guide you step by step through the process of creating a time capsule for your family, so someday your kids can feel the same way!

If you’re the kind of momma who doesn’t just work hard to give your kids a childhood full of love and laughter, but you want them to remember it too, this is the course for you! I’ve witnessed so much joy and connection in the families I’ve met through my portrait photography work and I’ve tried hard to capture those memories for them to hold on to. But you don’t really need a professional photographer to capture the best parts of your kid’s lives right now! And what you preserve for them today will be there for them when they are older and need that window back in time, to where they came from and who they were when they were young.

Creating a family time capsule can seem like an overwhelming task, it’s hard to even know where to start! I’ve been training my eye for years to notice the tiniest aspects that are a part of every family, every home, and I know just what to focus on and how to capture it. By using simple photography techniques and paying close attention to the details that often get missed in our day to day lives, you can pull together a collection of images that will sum up your baby in this moment, capturing this chapter in their life’s story.

Who Is This Course For?
Whether you have one child or enough for your own basketball team, this course will help you in gathering the important aspects of each of them and preserving them for generations. It doesn’t matter if your baby is 6 weeks old or 6 years old either, childhood at any stage is worth holding on to.

How Does It Work?
I’ve tried to make this course as easy as possible. All the information we talk about will be posted both on a password protected blog, just for you, and sent right into your email inbox. You can follow along and work your way through each assignment or save them up until you have the time to complete them, it’s your choice. There are no times you have to “be in class”, and there will be no reviewing or grading of assignments. (Though there will be plenty of support, should you need some encouragement or ideas!) On the course blog I will be available to answer any questions you have, from how to use your camera to translate your vision, to what’s the best way to store these photos once you have them. And we will have our own private Flickr group where I’ll be posting additional examples and inspiration and you will be able to share your own shots and ideas!

Do I Need A Fancy Camera?
Most certainly NOT! I am going to be showing examples of ways to take the photos using everything from a DSLR to a camera on my cell phone! We’ll cover some basic photography skills in the first week, so if you’re hoping to learn a bit more about photography you will have a chance to do that, but if all you want to do is set your camera to ‘auto’ and get shooting that works too! The most important thing is just that you take the photos at all!!

How Much Work is Involved, Realllly?
It was my aim when designing this course to have each assignment completed in only a few moments each day. I know most moms don’t have much more than that to spare anyway! And since you will be getting all of this material in your inbox you are free to work through it as you find the time.
